The nice people at Moseley Barcamp dropped me a line to say panel spaces (that's how they're scheduling stuff) are getting thin on the ground, so if we want to be involved can we get back to them ASAP.

So, who's in and what do we want to talk about?

I say we keep in short (10 mins) and general interest. So maybe something on a.green:focus or designery/techy?

How about discussing the "Birmingham/Midlands Web Community"?

Right, the nice people at the Mosley Barcamp have given us a slot, despite me promising to get back to them and not yet having a topic or anything. This is very nice of them as slots are at a premium.

So, if anybody wants to join me and talk briefly about "Birmingham's Web Cred" (working title) for about ten minutes and then help with the open floor discussion.

Matt, I'm registered to attend. I've no excuse not to go, the venue is 10 mins away by bus! I'm not sure I can help you with the panel, having practically no Web cred, but if you poke and prod me (preferably with a pint of beer) I might be encouraged to rant incoherently about something during the discussion. The shoddy standard of spelling and grammar, probably...

I'm doing a talk about how to make ur site faster, focusing on client side stuff: jQuery, limiting number of requests, compressing stuff, source order oh and how wordpress + plugins normally fudges things up.

Tom, nice, are you going to give people a tour of YSlow?

Topic is still fairly ill-defined, but what I was thinking was we do some twittery research of what folks in the wider industry see as Birmingham's image as a place to do web stuff. There seems an odd discrepancy between being seen as a place full of innovative Social Media mavens, but not a place for high end web design or development and I think Mosley Barcamp might be a good place to canvas some opinion. Owen, you could always assist by getting some soundbytes from Malarkey...

    Kinda,

Want to explain how you can measure slowness, the 2+ requests per domain thing, why it's important, and that many of many of the wordpress plugins decide to include another version of jQuery/Prototype/ into your site when you've probably got one included.

Then will probably pickout a reallllllly bad site from someone attending and show how easily it can be fixed

I should be there (just grabbed a ticket) so I'm happy to chip in.
